Registration Guideline

Copy of birth certificates are required for all Kindergarten students and all new students. Students will be assigned to grade k~9 classes based on their age and current Chinese language aptitude.

Registration for Existing Students

Existing students should be enrolled into the next grade (move-up) with the same class assignment. For example, A Grade 4 Class 2 student can only move up to Grade 5 Class 2. Please do not register grade and class other than the move-up path as explained above. Fail to do so will not only increase extra work to our administrators but also may impose a penalty charge to your account. The School has the authority to reverse and re-arrange any registration that does not follow the policy.

If you want your child skip grade, proper approval from the Dean will be required. Please contact the Dean who will evaluate your child and make appropriate recommendation.

After registering language classes (except K classes), students are required to select a culture class without extra cost. Students are NOT allowed to register culture classes only except students returning after graduation. Please contact Vice Principal of Registration Xiaomei Li (may.x.wang@gmail.com) if you are registering culture class only.

Registration for New Students

On-line registration for school year 2010-2011 will be available to new families from July 1 to Aug. 20, 2010. New students (except Kindergarteners) should contact Vice Principal of Registration Xiaomei Li (may.x.wang@gmail.com) to be evaluated and assigned to appropriate grade and class. The assignment is based on the students’ Chinese proficiency levels and is subject to the availability of the grade/class.

Culture/Activity Classes

Except for Kindergarten students, all other grades’ students are required to select a culture/activity class via on-line registration. There are seat limits in each class. It is on a “first-come-first-serve” basis.

Tuition and Fees Policy

The tuition for the school year 2010-2011 for kindergarten to 9th grade is $576 for the 1st student of a family, and $536 for each additional student ($1,112 for a 2-student family and $1,648 for a 3-student family). In another word, a family will receive $40 reduction (management fee) on tuition for each additional child.

Due to special order on textbooks, online material and other special requirement, the tuition for CSL1, CSL2 and CSL3 class is $626. The tuition for CSL4 is $726.

For students who have completed all the language classes are allowed to register culture classes only without language class requirement. Please contact VP of Registration Xiaomei Li (may.x.wang@gmail.com) for details.

No partial refund will be issued if you should decide for your child not to participate culture classes.

Tuition payment needs to be in the format of a check payment. You shall print out the payment sheet from the online registration system, and have the check attached to it. Make sure to mark the students’ names, student ID numbers (or family ID numbers if available) on the check and on the registration printout sheet.

Please make the tuition check payable to: Huaxia Chinese School of New York and mail it to: Huaxia Chinese School of New York, P.O. Box 1236, Scarsdale, NY 10583. The tuition payment needs to be post marked by August 21, 2010. The registration will considered incomplete if no payment is received. The School has the right to deny a student’s acceptance if the payment has not been made in full and on time.

Refund Policy

Grade/Class Assignment or Transfer

Existing students will be automatically enrolled to the next grade with the same class assignment. For example, Grade 4 Class 2 students can only move up to Grade 5 Class 2. They will not be able to register for a different grade via on-line registration process. They will not be allowed to transfer among classes within the same grade. An error in choosing classes may result in extra work for school volunteers to adjust it back and delayed class assignments with lower priority.

During the first 3 weeks of the new school year, if an existing student wants to transfer to a different grade, he or she needs to get a recommendation from his or her current teacher, and obtain an approval from the School Administration team. The final transfer will also be subject to the availability of the grade/class that he or she wants to transfer to. Once the transfer is approved, the School Administration team will issue a Certificate of Transfer and re-assign the students to the grades/classes approved.

New students (other than students entering into Kindergarten classes) can select a grade they prefer to enroll via on-line registration. However, during the first 3 weeks of the new school year, the Dean will assess the new students and provide final approvals for the grade/class assignment based on the students' Chinese proficiency levels. The School Administration team will re-assign the new students to the appropriate grades/classes based on the Dean's recommendations.

Culture Class Selection and Transfer

Except for Kindergarten students, all other grades' students are eligible to participate in the culture/activity classes. They can select a culture/activity class via on-line registration. It is on a "first-come-first-serve" basis.

During the first 4 weeks of the new school year, if a student wants to change his or her current culture class selection, he or she can make a request to the School Administration team. However, the final transfer is subject to the availability and specific restrictions of the class that the student is interested in transferring to.

Once the 5th week's class starts, no more transfers will be allowed. In addition, there will be NO re-assignment of culture/activity classes at the beginning of the Spring semester. If a student cannot find any culture/activity class that he or she is interested in, he or she may choose not to attend any culture/activity class. If a student is found to attend a culture/activity class without the School Administration's approval, his or her parents will be contacted. If the situation is not rectified, the student will not be allowed to attend any culture/activity class for the remaining of the school year.

The school reserves the right to adjust and make final call on student class assignments in order to balance the enrollments of classes in term of grade and activity area.

Teacher Assignment

The School Administration team will assign each grade's teachers to different classes based on random draws during each year's kickoff meeting. The teacher assignment will be available on the School's website the week before the start of a new school year.

Classroom Assignment

The classroom (building/floor/room#) assignment can be found on the School's website 2 weeks before the start of a new school year.

Photo Usage

The school reserves the right to pictures taken for students/families participating in the Huaxia School's academic or social activities (e.g. speech contests, or parties hosted by Parent-Teacher Association), and may post them on the School's website internal sections, which is only accessible by the registered members of the School.
